Scope

The Symposium is an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas, research and practical experience on the manipulation of functional organic and inorganic advanced smart materials. The Symposium provides a valuable opportunity for scientists, engineers and students to meet, and so is the ideal forum at which research groups can identify not only common areas of interest but also complementary expertise.
The aim of this Symposium is to bring together examples of some of the latest applications of spectroscopic methods, such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, second harmonic generation (SHG) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy to the investigation of the ever increasing number of oriented phases and their fascinating behaviour. At the same time theory can also play a key role in such experimental studies and their interpretation. It is to be hoped that the presentations, both talks and posters will stimulate new and ingenious applications of these major experimental techniques to solve some of the latest liquid crystal challenges. To this end the Symposium has been arranged to provide an informal atmosphere to permit an easy exchange of views and ideas.
